Article marketing is the process of writing internet articles for onward transmission to article directories. These directories will publish your articles as content for their websites and for other website owners too.
There are two main purposes of writing articles.
#1 - One reason for writing and promoting articles is to generate back links for search engine optimization; and
#2 - The second reason for writing and promoting articles is to create direct traffic to your website or squeeze page.
If creating multiple back links is your main purpose then you need to understand that it is the back links that the search engines use to estimate the popularity and relevance of your website.
The theory goes something like this: if website A) has more webpages from other websites linking into it than say, website B), then all things being equal, website A) must have greater popularity than that of site B).
A lot of search engines use this formula for working out rankings. So experienced web managers use this, (the creation of multiple back links), to form their search engine optimization strategy.
Google, who is the more reputable search engines has created a complicated logarithmic method to work out popularities of websites. Articles are not the only way in which you can create back links however.
You can create back links via website submissions to website directories, link exchanges, link purchases and simply by asking other website managers for a reciprocal link.
But for me, one of the best methods, one of the most effective methods of generating multiple back links is via article marketing.
When you draft your article, it is important that you include a link in your resource box at the end of the article. Then, when you submit it to the various article directories, you can create a massive number of back links that are free and effective.
