Does it take you a long time to write? Are you a perfectionist? Are you afraid you're not good enough? Guess what, the real you is all we want to hear from. And no one's perfect, so don't try to be. We all have talents. Here are four tips to allowing your creativity to flow and not let perfectionism slow you down.
Does it Take You a Long Time to Write?
Are you a perfectionist? Do you have a lot of self talk, perhaps that's negative and telling you that you aren't doing it right, or that you should be doing it better? Self talk can slow you down.
Also, if you are trying to write from your logical, left brain, then that can slow you down. Your right brain is the creative one. Writing from the right brain is faster and flows easier. I'm doing that right now, writing in the early morning when the left brain hasn't yet woken up! And I'm on such a roll, just having cranked out 3 articles in one hour. And I'm not “perfect" at this!
You can also relax and go into a more meditative state to reach your right brain. Einstein did this every day so that he could be the most creative.
Practice Makes Perfect
How do you get better at something? Practice! How often to Olympic champions practice? Often and a lot. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day. It took time. Lots of time. Practice, practice, practice. Or as the saying goes, “Practice makes Perfect". Although you really don't want perfection as your goal. Sloppy perfection is good enough.
It's ok to not be perfect and to make mistakes. People are forgiving. The more authentic we are, the more people like us. Being authentic means being real.
Are You Afraid You're Not Good Enough?
When a friend told me I should start writing about article internet marketing, I thought I wasn't good enough to do it. I thought, I'm no expert, who would listen to me? I don't know everything about it, so I can't do it. Well, that's perfectionist thinking that stops everything in its tracks.
The truth is, I'm very good at working with beginners. I'm very good at explaining things (even to advanced people). I've also learned a lot about how the brain works, and I can help people with that knowledge. Look at yourself. What can you teach? You're always good enough for someone. No one will make everyone happy. That's why there needs to be many of us teaching the same thing: some people will like what I have to say and some will like what you have to say.
There's a place for all of us. We all have talents to share.
