Which strategy is better, submitting one article to multiple article directories or focusing just on one directory and submit a lot of articles?
In short, I should say both but with a twist. Don't submit too aggressively to every article director that you could find but also think big about other potential places where you can post your articles.
The strategy for article marketing changes every so often based on many factors. For instance, after Google tighten its algorithm to filter duplicate content more aggressively, submitting one article to multiple directories doesn't work as well as it was.
Marketers used to be able to write one article and submit them to tens and hundreds of article directories and immediately get many inbound links back to their site in as little as one day. The results kept growing in the first few weeks that with a popular article you could get thousands of backlinks.
This method is fading right now mostly because of Google's filtering. Besides duplicate content issue, backlinks from low quality article directories may not affect search engine rankings at all.
So, how should you approach article submission now? First, keep writing those articles. Submit to EzineArticles.com and possibly two to five other high-traffic and popular directories. Even if Google discounted the links from these other directories, you still can leverage the traffic from those sites.
At the same time, keep your eyes open for other possibilities and sites that are in need for contents and articles. Niche article directories and authority web sites may be great places to start.
The great thing about these sites is that, there isn't a lot of competition yet and every backlink from such sites count. It may take a bit of hard work and you can't automate the submission. However, approaching other business owners who do business in the same niche as yours could open up different possibilities besides article syndication and search engine juice.
