Once you know what you are writing about, what you want to achieve from your work, and what format you are going to use for it, the next step is get your material together. If research is necessary, this is the stage at which it shall be done. The internet is generally sufficient, but you can also use libraries and even talk to others who can provide you with the information you require. You should then put that information in the rough order in which you intend to write it.
Once you are happy that you have all the information that you need, and know in what order you will present it, you are ready to start writing. First write the article without worrying about spelling and grammar. Put what you have to say down on paper, and when you have finished you can spell check it. After correcting the gross spelling mistakes that your spell checker finds, read it over and correct any grammar or other errors that you see. You can also make a few changes here if the article does not read right.
Finally, go over it again. Read it out loud and listen to it. You might want to express yourself in different ways in some passages, and change the order of others. Take your time to get it as right as possible, and ask yourself, if you were the reader would you want to find out more?
