Cosmetic Surgery to Change the Shape and Look of the Face

Visitors: 221

Many women today are having cosmetic procedures, but not everyone will be emotionally prepared. In this article review some of the questions you might ask yourself before actually having a cosmetic procedure.

You should ask yourself:

  • Will this make me happier?
  • Have I done my homework in finding the right doctor, etc.
  • Do I understand the risks?
  • Am I being realistic?
  • Do I have the time for this?

There are many procedures that can change the shape and look of a face. These range from surgery to laser peeling and Botox injections. A full facelift primarily eliminates wrinkles, making the cheeks, chin and neck look younger.

    Traditional Lift involves:

  • An incision made at the temple, behind the hairline and runs down toward the ear, behind the earlobe and along the scalp, to the nape of the neck
  • The surgeon lifts the skin, shapes the fatty tissue beneath the skin and removes excess tissue if necessary
  • Facial muscles are sutured together
  • The skin is stretched to reduce wrinkles
  • Excess skin is cut away
  • The incision is closed

    Minilift or limited-incision facelift involves:

  • Treating the face and neck separately
  • Smaller incisions are made in front of the ears for a mini facelift
  • Smaller incisions are made behind the ears for a neck lift
  • Filler injections are often administered during the procedures

    Forehead lift involves:

  • In the open forehead lift, the incision is made on top of the head at the hairline and runs down on either side of the face to each ear
  • The muscles are cut
  • The effect is reduction in vertical frown lines between the eyebrows and horizontal wrinkles on the forehead
  • All other steps are similar to the face lift

These procedures are usually done under local anesthesia, but can also be done under general anesthesia.

The recovery time is usually minimal. Patients usually can leave the clinic or hospital on the same day with the advice to rest for a few days. You will also need more time before appearing in public as swelling and bruising may be a problem for two or three weeks after the procedure. The skin is more sensitive to sun and cold for several months and the scars may take up to one year to heal.

More often than not, a repeat operation is needed after 10 or 15 years.
