The northernmost province of the great Thailand, Chiang Rai is a little less than 800 kilometers from Bangkok. Those who wish to lay back and relax can go on boat rides on the Kok River. It is a fun and de-stressing way of experiencing the hill tribe villages and the captivating scenery around. There is no shortage of excitement either with the traditional elephant ride available at Baan Ruami, just off Chiang Rai.

Chiang Rai also abounds in a rich culture that has been kept alive for centuries. There are festivals and events for a major part of the year, so the chances of finding oneself in the midst of some celebration are high when in Chiang Rai.
