Discovering the Best Sights of Istanbul

Visitors: 109

If one thing can be said about the best Istanbul hotels, it would be that none of them are far from some of the major attractions in this part of the world. However, there are almost too many to see and it can be tricky narrowing down your options. So, with that in mind let’s focus on some of the true highlights; how many of these will make it onto your itinerary?

Hagia Sophia

This beautiful basilica is arguably one of the most famous – if not the most – in all of Istanbul. Venture out from the best Istanbul hotels (hard as it may be) and spend a few hours exploring this amazing building that was dedicated back in 360. As you step inside Hagia Sophia you’ll have the opportunity to see the main dome, which is simply stunning and heavily decorated. Be warned – you could get neck ache looking up inside this building, such is the degree of decoration you’ll want to see!

Topkapi Palace

From a basilica to a palace, and this one may even be visible from your rooms in the best Istanbul hotels. Many will know Topkapi Palace from the film of the same name, but there is nothing like seeing this impressive building yourself. It was the home of the Ottoman Sultans for four centuries and its palatial title was earned from the mid 1400s onwards.

Inside you can see the cloak of Muhammed, among other relics, making this attraction important for more than just the wonderful architecture. Be sure you don’t miss the grounds and the unusual hollowed out trees.

Dolmabahce Palace

Finally we have included a destination you may not have heard of before. The Dolmabahce Palace can be viewed from the Bosphorus strait, so if you go on a boat trip around Istanbul you will see the exterior of the palace. However, going inside is just as breathtaking an experience. One of the most famous sights is that of the Crystal Staircase. This sweeps up both sides of the room it is in, leading to a gallery adorned with pillars. It is decorated with an impressive red carpet and a huge crystal chandelier that hangs from the ceiling.

As you can see there is much to enjoy when you visit this exotic city. Staying in one of the best Istanbul hotels close by these famous sights will make for a fulfilling experience and no trip to the city would be complete without visiting the above attractions. There are centuries of history to be explored.
