Once a small fishing village, the town of Brighton has become one of the United Kingdom’s most endearing tourist destinations. Many hundreds of thousands of tourists come to this seaside town, which stands only just over an hour from the capital of England; London. Getting to this wonderful seaside city is easily done from London, which is where most international tourists fly into first. There are plenty of Brighton City Centre hotels to choose from, but when it comes to festivals and events, it is best that tourists book before arriving. Brighton is considered to be the best beachside town in the United Kingdom, although many citizens of the southwestern coast of England would beg to differ. There are so many attractions located within the downtown area of the city. But, there are also dozens of excellent things to do while staying the in centre too. For an amazing day out, nothing beats a trip to the Sea Life Centre. This is the oldest aquarium in the world, and is situated close to the Brighton Pier. It is still considered part of the downtown area of the city, , and can easily be reached from anywhere in the city. Come and see the wonders of the ocean in this amazing attraction. Tours of the aquarium are available, and the underwater tunnel is a great thing to explore. It is important that tourists choose when they are to visit the city of Brighton correctly, because several times a year there are festivals held that bring about thousands of visitors. The most famous festival in the Brighton downtown calendar is the Brighton Festival and Fringe Festival. This fascinating arts events is the second biggest of its kind in the British Isles, behind the similar event held in Edinburgh. The event is held in the month of May, and includes large collections of art displays, books, and musical treats. Don’t forget about the fringe festival that occurs simultaneously with the arts festival. Tours and over 600 exhibits are usually found during this festival. There is another festival, called the Brighton Pride, which attracts large crowds each year. It is the gay and lesbian festival held through the streets of the central district of Brighton each year. Clubbing is a fantastic thing to in Brighton Town, as there are many dozens of pubs and clubs to explore. Pub crawling is a very popular activity, as most streets and avenues in the downtown area host at least one or two pubs. Clubbing and pub crawling is one thing to do after the sun goes down, but don’t forget about the theatres in the city too. Plenty of theatres are available, and weekly shows and performances can be found through the town magazine and tourist offices. The Theatre Royal is a beautiful red theatre found in the centre of the city, and hosts operas and theatrical performances monthly. Shoppers will love the large amount of shopping possibilities within the charming city centre of beautiful Brighton. The most intriguing place to shop is the district known as The Lanes. There are thin alleyways linked together with a plethora of clothing stores and book stores, among others. In addition to the Lanes district, tourists will enjoy the Churchill Square Shopping Centre for a great shopping experience. Bring plenty of money because there are so many stores worth visiting. Touring the city is also possible. Brighton’s main tour is the open bus tour of the downtown area. Beginning at the pier, the tour takes visitors and locals around the city, exposing the main landmarks. In addition to the bus tour, there are walking tours offered around the city’s streets.
