There is so much to choose from when it comes to local handicrafts, traditional wares, and religious items. The woollen items of clothing that are produced locally are particularly renowned and all visitors should take the time to pick up some form of woollen clothing. Manali, like the rest of India, is very easy on the wallet when it comes to travel and shopping. You will be able to find a Manali hotel for a great price without too much trouble. Then, all that is left to do is to head out and start your shopping spree.

Shopping for Traditional Wares

Bhutico is one of Manali’s most famous government sponsored emporiums. Its specialty is hand woven pieces of woollen clothing. Woollen clothing is a specialty of Manali, and there is no better place in Manali to find woollen clothing than Bhutico. Picking up a woollen shawl or a kullu cap is the best idea if you want to take something traditional home as a reminder of your time in this magical part of India.

Tibetan Handicraft Emporium
The Tibetan Handicraft Emporium stands proud in Manali as one of the most authentic sellers of Indian and Tibetan clothing. What makes the Tibetan Handicraft Emporium different from other emporiums or stores selling woollen items, is that the goods that are sold here are made from the finest quality pashmina wool. Although the prices are therefore a little higher than other places in Manali, they are still very reasonable, especially considering the quality of what you’re getting.

Tibetan Bazaar
The Tibetan Bazaar can be found in the south side of Manali. It is a one of the more vibrant markets in Manali, and is frequented by tourists to the town. This market has one of the largest ranges of traditional items on sale in Manali. Some of the specialities here include jewellery, amulets, kullu sweaters, and kullu shawls.

Gadan Tekchokling Gompa
Gandan Tekchokling Gompa is an absolute must for any visitor looking to find a traditional Tibetan or Indian style rug or carpet. The materials that are used in the carpets at Gadan Tekchokling Gompa are some of the finest in the area. Once you’ve looked at their range of carpets, take some more time to look at the local handicrafts that are also on offer, all at great prices.

Shopping for Western Items

Like most markets in India these days, the Manali markets have their fare share of fake designer goods, including western style clothes and fashion accessories. Whilst visitors are recommended to spend their time looking at the great traditional items available, those in need of some new clothes for back home can find what they need at a variety of locations throughout Manali.

Mall Road Market
Mall Road Market is perhaps the best place to shop for western style goods. There is just about everything at this market. Visitors will find the usual range of fake goods such as bags, watches, and shirts. These can all be purchased at low prices if you’re prepared to bargain.

Manali Market
Manali Market is another large market that has a number of stores selling western style clothing in amongst the many traditional souvenir shops. Bargaining is essential here if you are to get a low price, but this of course, is all part of the fun. Manali Market is open daily and is always busy.
