If you like your holidays edifying as well as with a great flair for the social life, Amsterdam is the perfect choice for a destination. With so many things to see and do, it's little wonder that this enigmatic city is so popular with tourists. Whatever you're into, you're bound to find it in scores in Amsterdam, from an incredible amount of museums to amazing architecture buildings and exhilarating outdoor markets.

If you're a big fan of museums, Amsterdam is a total treat. The city is packed with museums of all kinds that are sure to please anybody who loves discovering the past, whether on a local or a global scale.

Some of the best museums in Amsterdam include the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, which is the national museum of the Netherlands, as well as the Hermitage Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, the Anne Frank House, the cat-themed Kattenkabinet, the Filmmuseum, which is Holland's cinematography museum, and many more.

Families will delight at the NEMO, a science centre with a difference - its interior is designed to look like a sinking ship and the kids will be thrilled to discover the many incredible entertainments inside, as well as the Amsterdam Dungeon, which combines theatre, attractions and education as visitors delve deep into the city's darker past.

There are many more museums, but only so many you'll be able to pack into a trip alongside all of the other exciting things you'll be doing.

As mentioned, Amsterdam is also incredible for its architecture. A simple stroll through the city centre will show you a plethora of architectural treats, but special attention should be paid to the Royal Palace, the Stopera, Centraal Station, Rembrandt Tower, the Portuguese Synagogue, the Homomonument and the impressive De Waag.

When you're not checking out the sights of Amsterdam by day - which is best done exploring the markets that spring up most weekdays - night is just as exciting. The city comes to life as restaurants, bars and clubs open their doors to the enthusiastic locals.

You can be sure that every time you return to your luxury hotel in Amsterdam that you'll be tired enough to ensure a wonderful night's sleep. At least, that is before you get up in the morning and do it all over again!

Amsterdam is a city that is popular for a reason - so you won't have to worry about not enjoying yourself when you go. There is something for everyone and you could find yourself wanting to go back as soon as it's time to leave.
