Korat is often called the gateway to Isaan which is the north eastern region of Thailand. Korat is also known as Nakhon Ratchasima and is the second largest city of the country. If you are traveling to Thailand and would like to see more of Thailand then only its beaches and nightlife then you should definitely consider visiting Korat which is located around 300 kilometers from Bangkok.

There are many interesting activities and attractions for tourists in and around Korat including the impressive Khmer temple complex at Phi Mai or the famous Yamo statue which is located in the center of Korat. Korat is a modern city with a number of excellent western restaurants such as Chez Andy, Dr. Pizza and Amporn Steak House. There is also a wide variety of excellent hotels in Korat with the best hotels being the Dusit Princess and the Sima Thani hotel. If you enjoy shopping then you will certainly enjoy your stay Korat.

The Mall is a large modern US style shopping mall in Korat with hundreds of shops, a cinema and a large selection of food and beverage outlets. There are also a number of well known department stores and large retailers such as Makro, Big C and Lotus Tesco. If you would like to do some bargain hunting then be sure to head over to the Korat Night Bazaar or the Save One market. Although Korat has an airport, there are currently no regular flights to this airport.

As Korat is located close by to Bangkok, many travelers prefer taking the bus with a one way ticket costing around 6 Dollars. Another option would be to rent a car in Bangkok and to drive to Korat. There are plenty of beautiful spots where you can stop along the way including a large lake about 30 kilometers before entering Korat.
