Tourists now venture to the city in their hordes each year, such is the amazing reputation this city emits. With so many travellers making their way to the city, hotels in Melaka City Centre do generally require bookings.

Most tourists that visit a city for the first time understandably have a range of questions that they would love to get answered. The tourists to Melaka are no exception. So, to make it easier and les daunting, frequently asked shopping and eating questions are identified in the following list:

Does Melaka Downtown have any shopping malls?

Yes, Melaka does contain several shopping malls to keep visitors satisfied, especially those that are shopaholics. The largest and most important shopping centre in the city centre is the Mahkota Parade Shopping Centre, which contains more than 200 stores all vying for customers. Plenty of restaurants can be found in the parade, not to mention many retail stores. In addition to the Mahkota Parade, the other shopping mall in the city centre, which is found just opposite, is the Dataran Pahlawan Mega Mall. It is actually the largest mall in the southern Malaysian region, and boasts a huge array of specialty stores…hence the name ‘mega’!

Are markets popular in the city centre?

Markets are also very popular in the city centre of Melaka. Many locals and tourists flock to the markets that are held each night. However, it is important to know when the markets are held during the week, and where they are located.

Where are the main markets?

Within the central region of Melaka, the main market that is held is found at Jonkers Walk. This amazingly surreal pedestrian street opens for business every weekend, from the early evening to about midnight. A host of items can be found in the market place, including some phenomenal desserts like waffles and coconut filled treats. However, what about the rest of the week? There is a Pasar Malam, or night market, held in the city centre every night, except each night changes locations. It is probably best to ask the concierge at the hotel where the corresponding market will be for each particular night.

It is also possible to find burger men along the streets that serve up tasty and cheap hamburgers!

The easiest way to find a cheap meal is to eat on the streets. This can be done in a number of popular places, including the famous road Jalan Kee Ann, which houses noodle dishes and more in the open air.

What is Melaka shopping famous for?

The most important article to shop for in the downtown area of the city is antiques. The city centre is filled with antique shops selling fine products for tourists and locals. In addition to the antique stores, it is also popular to purchase local handicrafts as souvenirs. These are the most important products in the streets of downtown Melaka.

Where are the more expensive restaurants?
