Zell Am See Culinary and Shopping Delights

Visitors: 171

Zell Am See is a charming town that sits by the shoreline of Lake Zell, in the Valley of Zell region, Salzburg, Austria. Each year, tourists venture to the town for its very decent skiing fields, just outside the city. However, the summer may see a small decline in tourism, but the lake and the surrounding hiking landscape still manages to draw a crowd.

Getting into the town is best done through the national train services, which travel from Salzburg to Zell Am See several times a day. Driving is another possibility, but the railway system in Austria is usually quite reliable. Getting around on foot once inside the town is convenient too.

The city of Zell Am See is not renowned for its culinary pleasures, nor is it a shopper’s paradise. However, these two features of the town can still be seen and enjoyed by all travellers. The following information breaks down the city’s shopping features and dining features, to make it easier for first time travellers.

Where is the best place to shop?
There is no one area that tourists can find in the city that will open their eyes to a world of majestic shopping. As a matter of fact, there are no department stores or shopping complexes found in the city. The stores worth shopping in a located in the streets and old cobbled lanes of the town, making it very accessible for every one staying in the city.

Where can people dine?
Similar to the shopping scene in the city, Zell Am See has a range of restaurants and eating areas located across the cityscape. However, there are certain areas in the town that boast more up-market restaurants and eateries, especially closer to the lake. Of course, great food is not only found in the more expensive restaurants. Cheaper restaurants located in the centre of town are also available, offering spectacular culinary delights for customers.

Where are the most romantic restaurants?
For a more romantic atmosphere, there are many restaurants located along the lake edge, or at least have fantastic views of the lake itself and the mountains of the town’s periphery. Most of the Zell Am See hotels that are found in the lakeside districts provide guests with exquisite, romantic dining experiences.

What cuisines are available?
Zell Am See is home to a number of wonderful cuisines. Even though it is an Austrian city, this is only a small fraction of the cuisines available in the town. Italian has a strong influence in Zell Am See, so too does French and German food. In addition to this, some of the hotels in the city boast international and American food, largely due to the fact that they are American owned lodgings.

What sort of products are sold in Zell Am See?
When it comes to shopping, there are a few different products that make Zell Am See quite famous. The jewelry in the town is among the best in the country. If visitors aren’t into jewelry, then crystal and jeweled ornaments are the next best thing, especially when it comes to purchasing souvenirs.

What are the shopping hours in the town?
The town is unlike other ski resort settlements in Austria, as the shops are closed quite early. As a matter of fact, the city almost shuts down after the sun has fallen below the horizon, except for the restaurants and night spots. Tourists are advised to do there shopping well before 17:00, as this is usually when shops shut down.

When do restaurants close?
Some restaurants remain open until quite late at night. Those restaurants with an attached lounge or bar will generally continue its kitchen services until close to midnight, but then the main things on the menu are alcoholic beverages.
