Koh Pha Ngan is a magnificent island radiating from the southern reaches of the Gulf of Thailand. It is a national treasure in the eyes of Thailand, and for good reason. Boasting everything a tropical should, Koh Pha Ngan is one of the most popular tourist islands in the southern region of Thailand.
Most of the Kohh Pha Ngan hotels are affordable, but there are some very elegant and relatively expensive accommodation choices on offer. Most of the lodgings can be located along the beach, or at least a very quick walk to the beach. Getting to the island is best achieved via airplane to Koh Samui, then travel by boat to Koh Pha Ngan. There are other options available, including buses and planes from Bangkohk to the southern Thai mainland.
Culture – Thailand is renowned for its culture, and there is sure plenty of it on the island of Koh Pha Ngan. Throughout certain nights of the week, the island plays host to Muay Thai – the art of Thai boxing. For the visitors who get to see this incredible site, Thai boxing is more than just a fight. It is a deadly form of martial arts that is said to be the most lethal form of fighting in the world. However, the ceremonies that take place during the fight are just as entertaining as the fight itself.
When it comes to culture, Thai food is always on top of the list. On Koh Pha Ngan, this is no different. There are plenty of places to find excellent Thai food on the island, but it is recommended that tourists looking for a great dining experience should find spots that overlook the magnificent views of the Gulf of Thailand.
Recreation – depending on the time of the year visitors travel to the island, Koh Pha Ngan contains many attractive beaches. However, with stinger season and the rainy season spoiling many beaches throughout the course of the year, it is best to visit them while the peak season is on. Don’t worry, even though there are a lot of tourists at this time, the number of beach hideaways on the island make it easy for couples to get away.
Snorkeling is a great recreation that anybody can do. The best places to snorkel on the island are Haad Khom Beach, and the Haad Yao. Just off the coast of Koh Pha Ngan is another beautiful island called Koh Ma, which has many wonderful spots to snorkel too.
Archery can also be enjoyed on the island. It is located near the town of Chaloklum, and allows about four people to take part in shooting arrows at once. It is relatively cheap, with prices falling around 150 baht for 15 minutes of shooting.
Adventure – visitors seeking a more adventurous holiday can find it on the island. Scuba diving is much more adventurous than its softer cousin; snorkeling, and is found in many parts around the island. Even hotels contain scuba diving programs for all levels of divers. It doesn’t matter if divers are beginners or have years experience, scuba diving is like no other activity in the world.
Hiking is a great activity done by many tourists who come to the island. One of the best and most exciting treks is through the jungle to Bottle Beach, which is a secluded stretch of sand that is definitely worth the walk. However, it is advised that visitors always bring plenty of water.
There are many other more adventurous activities available on the island, including sea canoeing, kayaking, speed boating and non-stop night clubbing. If tourists are up for it, a holiday in Koh Pha Ngan can be extremely exhausting.
