Adventure Travel Bargains

Visitors: 143

Many people consider adventure traveling, such as a round-the-world cruise, or a photo safari, to be expensive. However, by following some guidelines one can find money saving opportunities and bargains for that trip of a lifetime.

Generally, tour operators apply only a small portion of the total cost of an adventure holiday to the actual adventure portion of the holiday. One can save thousands of dollars by organizing the trip themselves. However, doing one's own booking takes some careful planning.

One should start by purchasing 1 or 2 guidebooks for the locale or type of adventure travel you are considering. Although guidebook writers slant the trip to their own opinion, take the underlying themes seriously. Another excellent source is the Internet By joining message boards, blogs or listserv groups one can enter into a discussion about a particular trip you may have in mind.

Word of mouth is a valuable tool when considering a trip to a particular locale or adventure. The web literally opens up the entire world and you may have the chance to chat first hand with someone who lives in the area you are considering visiting.

Realistically, one cannot consider traveling around the world on a shoestring budget however, if one considers the cost saving of incremental stops rather than visiting that location individually from home the cost savings could be considerable. There are a number of adventure tour operators willing to offer a discount to travelers willing to make several stops, so this is another option to consider for saving money.

Cruise lines also offer bargains. It is unusual to pay the full brochure price for a cruise. Advertised specials in the newspaper or on the Internet are common. By simply checking out an advertised special online or with a travel agency, you can save money. In addition, another way to save is by joining a travel club that offers cruises as part of the package.

Once you have chosen a particular cruise line, check to see what they charge to take a trip on a particular holiday. Another option is to check with websites such as CruiseMates to see what is on special.

Another option if you are taking a cruise with children is to look for deals geared to them. Some cruises charge children full adult price for a full adult berth. Cruise lines like to retain customers and will often offer loyalty incentives for booking the next year. This can translate into on board credit while on board by booking the next year.
