Plan Ahead to Get Major Savings on Cruise Lines

Visitors: 158

When considering a cruise vacation, it is highly advisable to plan ahead. Major cruise lines generally give out large early-bird discounts to people who book a cruise 4 to 6 months ahead of time. So if you plan ahead and book your cruise vacation far in advance, you can enjoy discounts of 40 to 60 percent! Definitely major savings. Early bird deals may even allow a price adjustment if the price of the cruise later goes down. And these deals offer other perks too, such as getting your choice of cabin and getting reserved dinner seating.

Before you make a booking, however, you should determine four things: where you are going, when you will be going, how long you will go on the cruise, and what kind of cruise you want it to be.

Let’s first talk about that last one, the type of cruise. Cruise lines cater to different spectrums, from romantic cruises for singles to fun-filled vacation packages for families. Be sure that the cruise package you choose is one that will fit your interest. If you are a single, for example, you may not find it enjoyable to end up on a cruise full of married couples and hyperactive kids!

You should carefully consider where you will be going and how long you will be gone. These two variables are closely related, as the length of your cruise generally depends on the distance of your destination. If you plan to take a short cruise, from 5 to 7 days, then you will likely have to visit Bermuda or the Caribbean. If you want to visit Asia or the Mediterranean, then you may have to fly there first, which can increase your expenses and your time away.

The time when you go on your cruise may have a significant effect on the price you pay. Booking a cruise in the off season, which is from April to early May or from November to December, can mean off-peak discount rates of around 40 to 50 percent. Of course, these may not be good times to experience a cruise, due to likely climate conditions.

If you are a cruise travel novice, it would be a good idea to consult a travel agent with an expertise in cruise bookings. A good travel agent will be able to find you deals on cruises and give you advice about cruise lines, destinations, activities, and more.
