With the sparkling waters of English Bay on three sides of this city and the majestic mountains as a backdrop Vancouver, the province largest city is beyond beautiful. The city natural harbor is the busiest on the west coast of the continent. Canada Place with its white simulated sails resembles an ocean liner and adds to an already picturesque scene. Built to coincide with expo 1986 it is now home to the World trade Center, Vancouver Trade and Convention Center, a hotel, shops, restaurants and the CN IMAX Theater. Many special events take place here as well as at GM Place and British Columbia Place.

The city Stanley Park on a peninsula in English Bay is a four hundred hectare green area and a favorite place for locals and visitors alike. There is something for everyone with sports fields, trails, hills, beaches and plenty of parkland. The Vancouver Aquarium is in Stanley Park and features many wonders in water such as dolphins, sharks and even killer and beluga whales.

Downtown Robson Square is known as the city center which makes up three blocks of offices, restaurants, shops and theaters. The Vancouver Art gallery is housed here in an old courthouse. Downtown also features the country largest Chinese community centered around Pender Street. Gastown, a cobble-stoned street district, is the location of the city beginnings and features the world first steam-powered clock which still whistles the hour to passerby.

But it seems many people in this province of plenty do not need to know the time because they appear laid back and content to drink in the beauty that surround them.
