Newark is an exciting city with hundreds of things for tourists and residents to do. It is a city rich in history and culture. If you are a sports fan you might be wondering if there is anything for you. Well you are in luck. Newark is home to the Newark Bears a minor league baseball team. The Bears have just recently returned to Newark. The original organization left the town after the 1950 season having been sold to the Cubs organization. The new Newark Bears organization started in 1998 and would move into a new high tech stadium one year late. The 30 million dollar Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium opened officially on July 16, 1999. The stadium has a seating capacity of 6200 with 20 luxury suites, a party deck, concert stage and a picnic area. Its a beautiful stadium that has already hosted the Atlantic League All Star Game in 2001 and the annual Pride Bowl sprint football game.
