Bears come in neutral colors of brown, black, gray, white, or a combination of these. However, if we are planning to buy a stuffed bear for a young girl, a pink teddy bear is a safe choice. Girls of all ages love this color because of its femininity and charm. So, even if pink bears do not exist, manufacturers still produce various designs of the cute pink teddy bear, and they sell well.
Stuffed toys came to be when Margaret Steiff started making elephant pincushions to give as presents to friends. Kids who saw these, however, regarded them as toys and started playing with them. Margaret saw this and thought of making more, but this time she decided to sell them as toys. She sold a total of 5000 pincushions on the first year alone.
They soon put up the Steiff toy company which made several designs of stuffed toys. In 1902, Margaret’s nephew, Richard, was inspired to make a plush toy of a bear design. Richard loved visiting the zoo, and so the stuffed bear he made looked like the real bear with its long snout.
On that same year, a Russian immigrant who is living in USA, Morris Mitchom, also created a stuffed bear. They called it the “teddy’s bear” since it was inspired by an incident where then President Theodore Roosevelt was involved.
This new toy instantly won the heart of the masses, and the demand to have one grew fast. Mitchom could not meet this demand so other manufacturers started making their own versions of the toy. Soon enough, different designs, sizes, and colors have emerged. Some of these bears were made to imitate real famous bears, like the Black Bear, Brown Bear, Polar Bear, and Panda Bear.
Bears did not only capture the toy industry, but other mediums as well, like in cartoon series, television shows, movies, and story book tales. Some of the more famous characters are the Three Bears (with Goldilocks), the Care Bears, Winnie the Pooh, Paddington Bear, and Po of Kung Fu Panda.
In fact, bears are so popular that some places in different countries have festivals to honor them. You can find these in countries like Australia, America, Germany, Canada, Japan, and Great Britain. Teddy bear museums are also in existence in the US and England.
