Christmas Traditions to Pass to Your Children

Visitors: 199

Christmas is all about getting together and celebrating the joy of the festive with the family like how we have been doing for a long time. Christmas brings with it a set of traditions that make this festival special. But with the hectic schedules and business trips of working family members, these days it is hard to even find families spending quality time during the holidays. And with every passing year, the traditions are slowly fading away. However, there are ways to teach your child about the spirit of Christmas this season.

The moment one thinks of a holiday, the immediate though that comes to the mind is food! What is Christmas without the traditional food? The desserts, cookies, candies, salads, pies and more such delicious dishes are always part of the Christmas custom. So, you can ask your children to pitch in while you make some cookies or bake some traditional cakes. If your children are interested, then maybe you can ask them to give a hand with the holiday turkey too!

Where is my Christmas present? What would it be this year? Would it be the toy train that I have been asking for all these days? It is this excitement that keeps the children up and waiting for Christmas Eve. Even though the curiosity is overwhelming and you are being tempted to open the wrapper, it is customary to wait till midnight. The wait is what makes the gift more exciting.

And what better time to teach the noble qualities of generosity - of giving and gifting - than Christmas, the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ? The holiday season can be the right moment to instill a little bit of social responsibility in your child. To care for the needy, to help the poor and to be sensitive towards people who are not blessed with all the things that they have been lucky to have, etc are important values that children must imbibe right from their early years. Encourage your child to give away gifts to the less-fortunate this season.

You can choose to follow these ideas or come up with your own set of innovative ideas in order to pass down the Christmas traditions to your children. These are the memories that are cherished life-long and Christmas is best enjoyed during childhood more than any other time. So, make it extra special for them to remember it through years to come.
