On today’s date, we all are trying to get synced with western culture from every aspect. Especially when a question arises about dresses by default we are much inclined towards western dresses. The cause may be comfort or to look fashionable or just to be “up to date”.

But apart from all these issues, Indian women looks most beautiful in traditional costume. Ethnic wears superlatively complement womanhood.

Speaking about ethnic wears, salwar suit captures the top most position in the preference list. And reasons are quite obvious. In comparisons to other ethnic dresses like saree or lehenga, salwar suit is the most comfortable and versatile one. It can be effortlessly draped and matches well with any body type.

Biography of salwar kameez

Salwar Suit is originated from India, especially Punjab. And the most interesting fact is, they may be worn by both women as well as male, though styles differ. In fact, salwar kameez is national dress of India. Besides India, it is equally famous at Pakistan along with other Arabian countries. Basically, it comprises of 3 parts- A kameez (similar to tops), Salwar(trouser), Dupatta.

As the name suggests, it has its origin in Patiala city of Punjab and has got a royal connect with the king of Patiala. For daily use purpose, cotton fabric is best. While for party or bridal wears heavily embroidered silk or chiffon material looks magnificent. Patiala salwar suit is usually loose fitting with extensively pleated trouser, hence much comfortable to wear. Short kameez with deep cut neckline matches well with. Actress like Rani Mukherjee in movie “Bunty Aur Babli” and Kareena Kapoor in “Jab We Met” looked uttermost charming in Patiala salwar. Lankans, embroidery dupatta, gorgeous jhumkas (earring) and bangles are some indispensable accessories.

The trouser is ankle length and somewhat tight fitting, which makes it most eligible for office goers. Long length high neck collar kameez looks super cool on a scorching summer day.

Minimal makeup is preferable. Khol (kajal) eye, nude lipstick, golden chain, small earring and a fashionable watch makes you perfect corporate yet traditional women.


Anarkali Suit is the most gorgeous and lavish one you are looking for and most relevant for bridal and party wear. Anarkali salwar may be floor length or toe length. The kameez is made up of net or silk with luxurious zardozi or embroidery work. Colors like maroon, red, green and golden yellow are always on demand


You can try different types of shalwar (trouser) with contrasting kameez for a fusion look. Some pairs are suggested below Dhoti salwar with short kameez- gives an umbrella-like appearance. Sharara salwar (wide leg trouser) with knee length kameez. – looks like a skirt and is awesome for narrow body type.

Last but not least the trendiest pair – Pallazo with long front open heavily embroidered kameez. Points to be noted before buying. A good fitting is the most important factor. So be very careful about tailoring. Dupatta should be exceptional gorgeous for party wear purpose so that it can be flaunted well. Stitches of trouser should be checked carefully.
