Women's Plus Size Clothing Is On The Rise

Visitors: 140

Overweight and obese people are a very common sight in the world today. There are now many plus size clothing options available for those people but it was not always that way. There was a time when clothing for the plus size options were limited and in most cases absent in stores. What has changed?

Many stores have begun to realize that the plus size clothing industry is a $5 billion dollar industry. In fact, about 30% of women today wear plus sized clothing. Those stores have also began to realize how to market to the overweight community. What this means is that the stores are beginning to realize that middle-aged women are not going to spend as much money as younger women are going to spend on clothing.

Clothing for the overweight is making big strides in the market. Designers and retailers are realizing this. Clothing for the plus sized is now being offered in almost every department store which is a big change from the past when many stores either sold barely any or no clothing for them. The only store to sell only big clothes in the past was Lane Bryant but now there are many more stores popping up selling clothing for that selection of people.

One of the obvious reasons why clothing for the plus size is being offered more is because the market is getting bigger. Why is the market getting bigger? The reason the market is getting bigger is because people are getting bigger. The fact that people are getting bigger is very noticeable with designers so they are designing clothes to fit the average persons shape which is getting bigger everyday.

Women are especially getting bigger. Women as a whole have become bigger since just 20 years ago. Women who are now in their 40s and 50s are now adding to the increase in obesity. 60% of the women in their 40s and 50s are in need of bigger clothing now.

A major market research was conducted which lead to the change in clothing. The average size of man and, as said above, especially women has change much over the years. The average women's measurements back in 1960 were 34B bust with a 24-inch waist and 33-inch hips. Today the average women's measurements are 36C bust with a 28-inch waist and 38-inch hips. What does all of this mean? People are getting fatter and designers are noticing.

As years go by people are gaining weight and it is being noticed. Designers are now offering many more plus size clothing options for the public because they realize that people are demanding it.
