Kelty is owned by a company called American Recreation Products. Kelty is a maker of backpacks, tents, sleeping bags and other accessories for the outdoors. The company is based in Boulder, Colorado and is owned by Asher “Dick" Kelty. Mr. Kelty was one of the first manufacturers to design, produce and market an external frame backpack for the civilian market.
Kelty backpacks are made to be sturdy and come in a wide range of models and categories. If you are just looking for a day pack style or up to a full military style of pack, Kelty has you covered. These packs are built for the outdoors person looking to go on an extended hike in the wilderness. Everything you need to carry can be contained in these packs.
Kelty backpacks have 7 main classes with several models within each class. The basic distinctions are internal frame, external frame and no frame.

There are many more models than what are previewed here. It would take far too long to go into every model so I will just quickly preview 2 per class here and talk in depth on certain models elsewhere in this site.
Vintage Class: A couple of the most popular models are the Mockingbird pack with metal zippers padded shoulder straps and 28L. The other is the Wren with metal zippers and padded shoulder straps and comes in at 22L.
Internal Frame: The Coyote 80 is loaded with features and is hydration compatible and is a huge 78L capacity. The Pawnee 55 is also hydration compatible that is top loading, has ice axe loops and has a 54 L capacity.
Daypacks: The Redtail 30 is a hydration compatible backpack that has padded shoulder straps, side compression straps and a carry handle with a 30L capacity. The Redwing 50 is also hydration compatible, padded waist belt and shoulder straps and has a capacity of 51L.
External Frame: The Trekker 65 comes with a sleeping bag compartment, zippered side pockets and much more and has a capacity of 65L. The Yukon 50 also comes with a sleeping bag compartment, zippered side pockets, is top loading with adjustable suspension. This pack has a 49L capacity.
Military/Tactical: The MAP 3500 tactical pack is hydration compatible, fleece lined sunglasses pocket, front panel access and a lot more plus this pack has a 38L capacity. The Eagle 128 is the top of the line tactical pack and has far too many features to list here. This pack does feature a 128L capacity and weighs in at 11lbs, 2oz when empty.
Camouflage: The Tongass features a slim design with Real Tree Green Camo pattern plus all of the features you want in a pack and has an 18L capacity. The Cordova is a very versatile pack that also comes in the Real Tree Green Camo pattern and features a detachable pocket pack for short walks. This pack comes in a 32L design and is full of features.
Junior Packs: The Grommet is a comfortable pack just for kids. This is a go anywhere pack and can carry a standard sizes notebook computer and has an organizer. This pack has a capacity of 13.9L and has mesh water bottle pockets. The minnow is a great pack for the smaller kids when they need to carry a lunch or snack or other items. This pack has a volume of 12.3L.
