So why do you procrastinate? Life can be confusing. Putting things off may seem to be a good thing to do, sometimes it may seem to be a bad thing. You might be procrastinating because you don't want to start something; other times it is because you do not want to stop something. Yes, it can be confusing.
Lets explore some reasons why you might be putting off doing or acting on something.
"Even if I don't do anything, it will work out okay. " This might be true some of the time, but it isn't always the case. More often than not, things do not work out okay unless you do some small thing to help getting it to work out in a way that is advantageous to you.
Don't kid yourself. Be realistic, and ask yourself what risks increase if you wait on and on. Make a conscious decision to do something about it, even if it is to set a deadline for waiting.
"I can't do anything about (fill in the blank here), so why bother?" Don't be overwhelmed by the bigger picture, you will be tired out just thinking about it. Is there nothing you can do that might change the outcome?
Make it a point to question and ask yourself what it is that you could do right now, at this very moment, that will make some difference, whether it is small or big. Perhaps that action will trigger a chain reaction that finally will do something about (fill in the blank here).
"I don't have time for this as I am too busy". If this is a conscious decision to leave this task be for the time being as you have higher priority things to do, then that is fine. However, if you feel you are busy when you are really not, or because you have not managed your time and priorities properly, this can be a problem
The next time you procrastinate on starting that project because of your busy-ness, stop and think for a moment what it is that you are doing that makes you busy. Figure out which project is more important, and work on prioritizing your tasks in a more beneficial way.
