Practice positive thinking. Adopt a positive attitude. Both bits of good advice. But add to them Positive Action, and you can achieve anything you desire.
Events are neither good nor bad, happy or sad. The event is only what it is. We assign the labels that make it one way or another.
You go to work one day, and you're fired. Most people think being fired is a bad thing. But it's not really the firing that is bad; it's your reaction to it that determines how you feel about it. Instead of getting depressed and mad - which is your decision - you ask yourself, “What is the opportunity in this?" Just asking this one question can change the quality of your life at that moment.
Taking positive action can help you change the way you think. And, as this way of thinking becomes a habit, you will realize the impact it has on all areas of your life. Physically, you will feel better. You will be more tolerant in your relationships. And, you will notice that you are happier most of the time.
Here are 4 Positive Action steps that can change the quality of your life:
- Write “It's not the event, but my reaction, that determines the quality of my life, " on index cards and tape them up in places where you will see them everyday.
- Keep one card by your bed, and read it every morning when you get up and every night before you go to sleep.
- Every time that something happens (which you would normally consider “bad. ") stop and say out loud, “It's not the event, but my reaction, that determines the quality of my life. "
- When someone else is complaining, tell them, “It's not the event, but your reaction, that determines the quality of your life. " They may think you're crazy, but do it anyway.
