The calendar marks that Spring has officially arrived. Mind you here in Wisconsin, it's still quite possible that we could see another snow fall. It will melt, but never fast enough for this hot weather lover!
Regardless of the current weather, I know there are warmer days ahead. There's no doubt that temperatures will rise and our scenery will transform into beautiful colors once again. We'll start to see green all around and tulips in bloom. I'm excited to plant my garden and nurture my flowers until they flourish. Spring is certainly a time of renewal.
Spring is also tax season. Accountant's workweeks “bloom" to unbearably long hours and stress about taxes and money are at a high for many people. Tax preparers feel the burden of tax-time stress but nearly everyone seems to dread tax time. From the math and paper-trail prep work to facing the stressful question: Where did all my money go?
Money can be a major source of stress for many people. Tax season just acts like a great big spotlight on the issue. Financial stress is a big cause of health and relationship problems. Money, the number one thing couples fight about the most is a leading cause of divorce.
Stress expert and neuroscientist Robert Sapolsky has proven in his Stanford lab that people who carry high stress levels also have weaker immune systems and states “If we all just keep working hard and pushing hard enough, we will be able to get into an amazing nursing home one day. " That's a result I would like to avoid at all costs! Vitality is something I want to enjoy for many years to come.
Our bodies’ stress response worked beautifully in our cave days when we encountered bears and big animals that we needed to run from. In today's society we have a new, more lethal kind of stress: psychological stress.
Our lives are not in danger most of the time, but our minds still act as if we are creating mental and emotional scenarios that leave us feeling helpless, powerless and drained. It does nothing to build us up but rather it eats away at our health and wellbeing.
As a society we stress over everything, (especially financial stress) and stress no longer arrives in short bursts, it is constant. When we live in a world of not quite fight and not quite flight it causes us to carry around chronic, unresolved stress. This chronic stress means you never quite relax which causes an energy drain and your mind and body become fatigued.
You are more susceptible to colds, headaches, infections, ulcers, digestive problems, high blood pressure, heart disease and premature aging. . . . that's right, it actually causes you to age faster. Look around our country. We are growing physically fatter, financially thinner, we get sick more often and for longer and we are programmed to think it's normal or that we should take a drug to “fix" the problem. I'm here to educate you and show you a better way! (Positive thinking has the same affect on pain that a shot of morphine does, and it's free! Try it!)
Thankfully, all of the symptoms associated with financial stress can be a thing of the past. As I stated earlier this is a time of renewal, a chance for new growth. Perhaps it's time for you to think about your own garden. . . your subconscious garden that is! Pull those negative thoughts (the weeds of your mind) and start fresh. It's time to plant new seeds to grow prosperity in your life. It's never too late to start. . . that's the beauty of life! Every day is fresh and ready for you to take charge and make something happen!
