Keeping Your Stress Under Control

The affect of stress on an individual's overall well-being is often underestimated. High levels of stress can take a severe toll on a person if not handled properly. Stress can cause loss of sleep, difficulty focusing, alterations in mood, weight loss or gain, headaches, and muscle tension.

Effectively managing stress can allow individuals to lead happier and healthier lives. Many individuals feel overwhelmed due to procrastination and deadlines. Improving time management skills can reduce levels of stress. Along with this, getting organized helps too. Get a planner and try to get yourself into a regular routine. Set aside time to get certain tasks accomplished and then you will not have to worry when it comes down to crunch time.

Take time for yourself! Everyone needs a break so cut yourself some slack. Many individuals push themselves to the point of exertion without taking any time to do the things they enjoy. If you have ever heard the phrase, “Take time to smell the roses, " that applies here. Go get a pedicure with a close friend or spend the afternoon fishing with your kids. A little rest and relaxation may be just what you need!

Other activities can help you reduce your levels of stress. Exercise is a great way to work out your frustrations and get into better shape. When you get home from work go for a jog through a local park or meet up with some friends to play a round of golf. Being physically active is good for the mind and body. After a hectic day at the office, exercising also gives you time to clear your thoughts and regain your focus.

Everyone gets stressed out every now and then. What matters most is how you handle the bumps in the road and get over them.
