Two Kinds of Christians

Visitors: 233

And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ (1 Corinthians 3:1).

The scripture above reveals two categories of Christians: the “spiritual Christian, " and the “carnal and spirit-filled, the Apostle Paul described them as carnal. In other words, they weren't spiritually mature. Their lives weren't governed by the word of God. Meanwhile, the spiritual Christian is the one whose life is regulated by the word; he's not just a hearer but a doer of the word. He holds God's word as the final authority in his life.

These two classes of Christians exist in the church today: the carnal Christian, and the spiritual Christian. The carnal Christians are easily located in the church through their words; they speak like the rest of the world. As a newborn babe in Christ, you may find yourself still speaking the language of the people of the world, since you're still growing in the knowledge of God's word. However, to remain at that babyhood stage is unacceptable. Some folks in the church still talk worldly months and even years after coming to Christ; they are the ones Paul refers to as “carnal".

He further highlighted the characteristic of the carnal Christians: “. . ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? (1 Corinthians 3:3). Carnal Christians walk in strife, jealously, envy and cause divisions in church. They talk, reason and live like unbelievers, spiritual wisdom is not evident in their lives because they lack understanding of spiritual things.

But in contradistinction, the spiritual Christian has insight into all things, and he speaks the spiritual language - he talks the word! He as matured in God's word, thus he has perfect understanding in all things. The spiritual man knows that sickness or disease is a mirage! He knows his rights and privileges in Christ - he lives according to the word!

Make up your mind today, to grow unto a mature man in Christ; be a spiritual Christian.
