"Where there is great love there are always miracles. " Willa Cather
In 2009, join me in spending less time looking for what's wrong in your life and more time focused on approving of yourself as you are today.
Imagine waking up on the first day of 2009 and instead of criticizing yourself for eating too much, gaining a few pounds or not accomplishing everything on your list for the year, you began the new year, approving of yourself. Maybe if we all started the new year approving of ourselves, instead of beating ourselves up, we would naturally want to do what is best for ourselves. We would eat nourishing foods, exercise, take ourselves out to play and celebrate who we are each and every day for the rest of our lives.
Let me ask you this, would you rather work this year for a boss who is critical and condescending or, for one who is kind, caring and wanting you to succeed? We all get to choose who we will work this year for because we are our own boss.
Many people will spend lifetimes running, or hiding from that type of responsibility. It's easier to blame our circumstances, our past or anything else that we feel we lack. However, when we take ownership over our lives the complaining stops and we take the victim suit off. It doesn't really “suit" us anyway.
Catch yourself doing things right every single day for the next 365 days of this year. If you do this simple exercise, you won't have to push, prod, beat yourself up or perform any other kinds of self-torture to accomplish your goals. You will only really succeed when you are kind to yourself.
This year, put on the suit of feeling great, acting great and approving of yourself. Adjust the lens you see yourself with and soften that critical eye.
Let 2009 be the year that begins and ends with self-approval.
