Leadership can take many styles, but there are three main styles of leadership. Good leaders know all the three forms. They do not just stick to one style, but adopt different methods in different situations. Which kind of leadership style belongs to you?
The first type of leadership style is the dictating style. For this kind of leadership, it is most ideal if the team is already matured. When the team is experienced, a command just makes the people work towards the target being set. However, if this type of leadership is often being used, you are likely to get a team with little feedback. This is because the people do not feel motivated with a dictator. As such, the team is unlikely to improve.
Another style of leadership is the democratic style. This is one level next to the dictatorship style. This allows the team to give inputs and feedback, before the leader makes the final approval, and the final decision. It involves the people in making decisions, but only to a certain extent.
The third style of leadership is the delegating style. This is the most empowering method, and is highly popular in the world of today. The leader sets a goal that is common to the people, and allows the people to make their own decisions. The people will analyze and make decisions by themselves. If there is anything wrong with the decision being made, the leader will still take responsibility. Thus, it is important that the people being appointed as decision makers, are the good candidates.
In order to choose the type of leadership style, you need to know how critical is the decision. You also need to know what are the experience of the people, and whether there are potential candidates to become decision makers.
