A lot of people are wondering on how they can get the most out of their lives and how they can improve their chosen careers. The answer is very simple – personal development. But how does it affect the life of an individual person?

Personal development or self growth is the process of improving the specific skills of a person. These skills are one of the main ingredients of success and personal fulfillment. If you want to live the life you want, then developing your personal skills is the best thing that you can do.

The question is how do you obtain this self growth? Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding fathers of the United States, made a 13 week system. He mentioned 13 traits that can be developed every week. The 13 traits are self-control, silence, order, pledge, thrift, productivity, fairness, moderation, cleanliness, tranquility, humility and sincerity.

However, you must be aware that it is not like academic skills that can be learned by reading or by going to school. This kind of skills is used 24 hours even when you are sleeping. These skills will serve as the foundation of all the success and failures that is experienced by a normal person. It plays a very important role in the success of a person.

The traits mentioned above are the traits that a person needs to have to obtain personal development. It may look difficult but if you are really determined to grab success and obtain fulfillment, then all of these traits can possibly be obtained. The week limitation of each trait can be increased. It can be months or even years depending on your choice. You must keep in mind that success cannot be obtained overnight and there is no shortcut to success. You must be patient and determined to be able to live the life you want. The key to conquering fear lies in your thinking and questioning. In future when you are confronted with a fear you should stop for a moment and take a very deep breath. Breathing deeply relaxes the body and removes the tension that the fear is creating in your body. Then look closely at the way you have just been thinking. Isn't it true that you filled your mind with images that equated to the worst things that could happen in that situation.
Reverse the thoughts! Begin by questioning the fear. Use the following four questions to paralyse the fear!

1. Is it possible that if I change my thinking now I can actually create what I want instead of being fearful?
2. Is it possible that you may actually gain something from experiencing the feared event?
3. If this fear were to come to pass and be manifested in your life would the experience really be as bad as you are imagining it would be?
This last question may sound like a strange thing to ask yourself but there is a two-fold reason for asking it. Firstly, any thought in a different direction breaks the runaway train of negative fearful thought! Secondly, it forces you to look at the fear from a different perspective and neutralizes its power.
4. Is your feared based in reality?
