Gratitude - Be Thankful For What You Have

It was Friday morning and I was not really into stock trading. My mind was on the events that had been taking place throughout the week. And this brought a smile to my face. It all started last Sunday, I conducted a workshop on “Enhancing Relationships" for my 2006 public program participants; it was their 8th workshop.

Surprisingly on that day, a number of my earlier participants, who are now my good friends, turned up. There were Prabha and his wife Pushpa with their two sons; Mark was there too with his wife and kids. Then Madam Rozita also joined the group. Some of the personal coaching participants also came; there was Gengkes with Selvi, Cheong came with his kids and was sort of elected as the babysitter for the day. Some of the participants of the workshop also brought their children; the children simply had a gala time mixing around enjoying themselves. Suddenly, the whole place looked like a family gathering and no more a workshop!

Everyone, the earlier and the current participants, mingled and exchanged experiences. So much so that I had to gently remind everyone that we were ACTUALLY there for a workshop. They all laughed at that.

The workshop went very well. I spoke in depth on ‘relationship between husband and wife', ‘relationship with children', and most importantly on how they are formed and how they get strained and damaged. I had the class to see the aspects of relationship from a whole different perceptive by introducing the elements of chemistry, atoms, vibrations, Nature, goals and how every single existence in this universe is remarkably dependent on each other. There were excellent questions and plenty of discussions to support them. At one point, children too were listening attentively, especially when I was talking about how every single friendship and relationship matters in this journey called LIFE, and as such they should be treated with care and respect.

Later, Ms. Go of Mutiara Power Packed Training Programs brought in a big cake to celebrate the birthdays of those born in the month of March. There were a few in this workshop. As I took some photographs with my faithful Olympus FE-190, I felt a sudden “deja vu", a familiar feeling over what was happening at that moment that felt very close to my heart. I had tears in my eyes as I watched everything that was unfolding before my eyes. I thanked Nature for allowing me to enjoy that moment. Later, I had lunch with some of the participants and headed home feeling tired and yet happy.

I took time off the following day, as I wanted to update my blogs. My partner agreed to look after the market positions for me. I continued working seriously on the blogs the whole morning. Just as I was about to go out for lunch, my partner called and asked me to come to the office as he felt the market would make a major move in the afternoon. I agreed and quickly walked to the LRT (Light Rail Transit) nearby, took the train and headed straight to the office. In the train, I was thinking how fortunate I was to have him as a trading partner. Many years ago when I was down and out, he helped me to rise back by teaching me what I wanted to learn, trading. He did not have to. He did not need to, BUT he did. One of these days, I would blog on this wonderful man.

Then my thoughts drifted to 21st March 2007, Wednesday. It was Nicky's birthday! My wife and I together with Ms. Kasthuri had dinner with Nicky in Sri Petaling. We had “Kari Kepala Ikan" (curry fish head) and other delicious dishes. Nicky is truly a nice chap. I have a lot of respect for him; he is one person who speaks his mind and is not afraid to say what he thinks and feels. He is one of the active volunteers at Mutiara Power Packed Training Programs and is often around to help when we are conducting our training programs. I am truly honored to have found a friend in him.

As I was just looking back at the wonderful week I had, my friend sitting beside me, a fellow trader snapped me out of my thoughts and alerted me on a stock that has started to move upwards. I thanked him. I smiled; I felt blessed for having such great friends!
