Everyone should make personal and business goals. We should set goals daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. For most of our lives, we have been involved in goal setting to accomplish a purpose, mission, or objective. As a business owner or manager, when you set goals for your company, you are establishing its commitments. Another reason for setting goals is that the employees need to know what the company wants to achieve.
It is important to set short- and long-range goals for the company. An employee's short-range goal could be as simple as deciding to produce a large number of pieces by the end of the week. His long-range goal might be to move from entry level position to manager of his department within the first three years. The employees and managers’ goals should all come together so that everyone understands each other's purpose. It is suggested that you do the following to achieve your goals:
1) Write them down and discuss them openly 2) Make them challenging 3) Goals should be modeled by the supervisor
After setting the goals, you might need to do daily planning to see how you can achieve your goals and objectives. If you are working with a team, discuss the goals with the team members. Ask for suggestions from others on how to best accomplish the goals and set deadlines for achieving them. When other people try to give you information to help you meet your deadlines or achieve your goals, do not ignore them especially if they are people with experience and credibility. Take time and listen to people with experience in what you are trying to do because they can give you helpful information on how to achieve your goals.
