At heart, The Law of Attraction, or The Secret, is about changing the way you see yourself in relation to the rest of the universe, to recreate yourself in a form that you yourself perceive as being worthy of true happiness. This begins with wishing and wanting. But not in the traditional sense of simply fantasising. The problem with fantasising is that you are only too well aware that what you are indulging in is a fantasy. This can often make you feel even less fulfilled.
The Law of Attraction teaches you to wish and want effectively.
Here's an exercise for The Law of Attraction, a simple but effective one. It teaches you to focus your wishes and wants in a very particular fashion, so instead of indulging in airy, formless fantasies, you are creating detailed, specific and concrete wishes.
An Exercise for The Law of Attraction: Day 1. As soon as you're up and about, visualise receiving a check for $100. Out of the blue, for no reason. A gift from the universe. Take a piece of clean, white paper and write at the top: $100. As the day goes on, list the things you are going to spend your $100 on. As you add each item to the list, visualise going into the store, buying the item. If it's an item of clothing, visualise wearing it. If it's a CD, visualise listening to it. You must spend the entire $100. You can't give it away, and you can't save it for a rainy day. Remember, you're going to transform yourself into the type of person who doesn't have rainy days anymore!
An Exercise for The Law of Attraction: Day 2. As soon as you get up, take a quick look at yesterday's list. Look at all the things you bought with your $100 gift from the universe. Again, visualise possessing those things, visualise enjoying them. Now, visualise receiving another check. Perhaps, the universe saw just how much you appreciated the last one, it wants to give you another. This time, it's a check for $200. Take a nice clean sheet of paper and, repeat yesterday's activity. Again, it's crucial that you really think about what you're going to do with the money and vividly visualise enjoying each purchase.
An Exercise for The Law of Attraction: Day 3. As soon as you're up and about, take the lists from the previous two days and visualise (in fact, never mind visualising, actually remember) enjoying each of your gratis care-of-the-universe purchases. I think you can guess what happens next. That's right, a check for £300!
Keep at it, every day. You'll soon find it becomes second nature. You won't even need the sheet of paper. Some people recommend doing this only for a set period of time, but to me, it's like push-ups, it's one of those exercises that's always going to do you some good.
As an exercise for The Law of Attraction, this is possibly one of the most fundamental. It may seem like a bit of fun, like kids making wish lists of what kind of sports cars they're going to own when their older, but this is a serious exercise. It's about training your mind to not only wish in a focussed and effective manner but to expect these gifts from the universe and to know what to do with them when they inevitably arrive.
