Addiction to exercise is one of those that many people have a hard time accepting and yet it can be quite devastating to those who are suffering from it. The problem lies when you can no longer draw the line between beneficial exercise and compulsive exercising. When there is an underlying obsession associated with the exercise then you have crossed the line and need help to treat your addiction.

Is it Even Possible to Become Addicted to Exercise?

When you exercise your body released endorphins. That euphoric feeling of well being is a type of high that many drug users would be envious of. The goal is to burn off the calories that have been consumed.

Addiction is about losing control and no longer having the power to overcome the compulsion. Whether it is a compulsion to exercise in search of that high or in search of burning those calories you've consumed being addicted to exercise is not a good thing. It's hard to recognize an addiction to exercise because exercise is good for you. How can something that is good for you turn bad? The problem is that anything in excess, even those things that are good for you, brings along it's own set of problems. If your self worth suffers from your participation in something, it's a bad thing.
