Visitors: 222

Addiction to exercise is one of those that many people have a hard time accepting and yet it can be quite devastating to those who are suffering from it. The problem lies when you can no longer draw the line between beneficial exercise and compulsive exercising. When there is an underlying obsession associated with the exercise then you have crossed the line and need help to treat your addiction.

Is it Even Possible to Become Addicted to Exercise?

When you exercise your body released endorphins. That euphoric feeling of well being is a type of high that many drug users would be envious of. Unfortunately, addiction to exercise is not limited to those seeking a rush of endorphins. More commonly associated with teen girls and young women, there is a rising problem of exercise addiction in association with certain eating disorders. The goal is to burn off the calories that have been consumed.

The Power of Addiction

Addiction is about losing control and no longer having the power to overcome the compulsion. Whether it is a compulsion to exercise in search of that high or in search of burning those calories you've consumed being addicted to exercise is not a good thing. It's hard to recognize an addiction to exercise because exercise is good for you. How can something that is good for you turn bad? The problem is that anything in excess, even those things that are good for you, brings along it's own set of problems. If your self worth suffers from your participation in something, it's a bad thing.

NLP to Treat Exercise Addicts

Having an addiction to exercise can be confusing, NLP, or Neuro-Linguistic Programming and hypnotherapy are tools that have proven quite effective in treating those who suffer from this particular addiction. NLP allows your mind to recognize and identify those mental triggers that compel you to participate in this particular pattern of behavior and turn those cues off. This leaves you free to fight the effects of addiction without the strong pull to exercise that led you into the addiction.

More importantly, through NLP you can identify the reason for your addiction and address those issues. If you are addicted to the rush, NLP can can be used to overcome the pull that draws you in time and again. If you are exercising as the result of a poor body image, NLP can be used to help you address that problem as well.

Addiction to exercise is often the symptom of another underlying problem rather than the disease itself. By opening the doors to the subconscious you can explore the reasons you became addicted to exercise in the first place without the emotions that often cloud the mental message.

NLP provides the conscious mind with the tools it needs in order to bring about those positive changes you are looking for. Hypnotherapy for addictions is a great way to treat your addiction to exercise or any other addictions you may be struggling with.
