The Favor of our Father

The favor of our Father, I like the idea that I am special in my Father’s eyes. Honestly, it took me years to realize God was my Father. The concept of father and God didn’t seem to fit on the same page. My own earthly father didn’t exactly know how to express any favor and he sure didn’t know how to let me know he loved me. I don’t blame or condemn him anymore but there was a time in my life I hated him for not showing his favor towards me. I am not talking about favoritism, or favoring one child over another. I am talking about love, displaying affection and giving freely from a heart of compassion. My father didn’t know how to do this. I had a big problem referring to God as father but today I call God my Father.

My Father, “God” through Jesus Christ. I have to mention Jesus because without Jesus I could never know how much my heavenly Father actually loved me. He, my Father, loved me so much He sent His son, Jesus, to take my place, my punishment for all my sins, which are many, and because of His death, resurrection and accession to the right hand of His Father I can know God’s favor. Wow, that was a mouth full. Simply put, I am special in God’s eyes because of what Jesus did for me.

I stand in awe at times when I realize whom I am, a child of God, a child of the king, a child of the creator. Do you have any idea what the word means? Look up the word and let your mouth swing wide open when you read the definition. It means God treats me with excessive kindness. I am given preferential treatment. I am special in the eyes of God. Here is the kicker, so are you. If you are a child of God, through Jesus, you receive the same preferential treatment I receive. I can’t earn His favor, buy His favor or be good enough to deserve His favor. I am given favor by God simply because of who I am in Christ, a child of the King.
