Thandi is one of my sources of inspiration. I met her few years ago at a toastmasters’ meeting in Croydon. The day she told me that she was HIV positive I nearly fainted, but she said, “Dayo, don’t worry I am Handling It Very Positively". We have delivered seminars together and our friendship has grown in leaps and bounds. She comes to my house and I also go to her house, we even belong to the same mastermind alliance group.
Thandi Haruperi is a trainer, facilitator and motivational speaker, with a reputation for passionately delivering high impact presentations which are informative, inspiring, entertaining and sometimes challenging if not thought provoking. An exponent for self belief and self actualisation Thandi believes that we all have the ability to learn and grow from our experiences no matter how challenging and seemingly insurmountable. She understands the anxiety of an uncertain future and the frustration and consequences of complacency and mediocrity. This drives her passion for empowering and enabling herself and others achieve greater potential and hopefully live more fulfilled lives.
Translating this belief into action, Thandi founded RestorEgo Consultancy, a Training and Development Consultancy working around areas of health promotion, social inclusion, diversity and personal and organisational development to help others realise their full potential in spite of their lot.
Described as one of the UK's most passionate advocates for equality, Thandi has been instrumental in highlighting the issues and needs of socially excluded people particularly those affected by HIV/AIDS. Most of her work has been around fighting stigma and discrimination and challenging attitudes and stereotypes. Thandi has given radio and television interviews, written articles and spoken in schools, colleges, hospitals and universities to a variety of audiences including medical students and health care practitioners and has contributed to The All Party Parliamentary Group on AIDS and the London Assembly amongst others.
Originally from Zimbabwe, Thandi grew up in Zambia. In 1998, she was diagnosed with HIV. After her divorce in 1989 and with two daughters, Thandi found herself with no employment, no money and no commercially attractive CV. Needing a fresh start she emigrated to the UK in 1990 and several years later she found herself having to come to terms with an HIV positive diagnosis. She understands the anxiety of an uncertain future and the frustration and consequences of complacency and mediocrity. This drives her passion for empowering and enabling herself and others achieve greater potential and hopefully live more fulfilled.
Today she is grateful for the gift of life. Alive and well, Thandi continues to positively deal with change whilst consciously living on borrowed time. For leisure Thandi enjoys dancing, singing, long drives and property viewing.
