"The capacity for hope is the most significant fact of life. It provides human beings with a sense of destination and the energy to get started. " – Norman Cousins
Energy alone is a positive force. It is the capacity of being active or an exertion of force or power; however, many people go through life spending too much time with energy drainers, those forces that reduce our capacity to act or use our power.
Let’s take a closer look at how to increase the energy drainers in your life and then at a few productive responses to these energy drainers.
How to increase the energy drainers in your life
Go to work today and spend your lunchtime talking with co-workers about how unfair your boss is.
Make a dinner date with your friend who is always late and spends the entire evening complaining.
Have a seat in your home office and stare and the desk which is piled high with papers and mail and your kid’s overdue picture order form from school.
Look at the clothes on your bedroom chair that are waiting for the buttons to be sewn on before they can be worn.
Spend an hour on the phone with a relative who wants to share the juicy gossip of the entire family.
Reflect on your relationship with your partner who chooses not to listen to you or show a willingness to create a more positive relationship.
How to gain energy
Hire someone to help you organize your office.
Go to work and spend your lunch hour taking a walk.
Send your clothes to the dry cleaners or seamstress and get them fixed.
Do not answer the phone when your gossipy aunt calls.
Tell your partner what you want and what you need to have to feel good and happy in the relationship. If he chooses to disregard you, vow to change the situation in a way that feels good for you.
Spend the afternoon with a positive friend who always inspires and pumps you full of energy.
Go for a run or have some great sex to get all of the energy fibers in your body to trigger.
Make a list of what you are tolerating and how you are going to reduce it.
Choose to stop tolerating!
