There’s nothing wrong with classic wedding photography, and you’ll certainly want to have your photographer capture all of the classic wedding moments of the bride, groom, friends, and family. But you can also liven up your album with some of these unique, funny, fun, and creative wedding portrait ideas!
1. Be a Team Player
Posed pictures in full wedding regalia are a must, but they don’t all have to be so serious! Get creative gather up the groomsmen, bridesmaids, bride, and groom and hit the field. Of course, you don’t want to actually play that’s too dangerous to the wedding dress! But a posed shot of the bride getting ready to score a goal against the best man makes for a delightfully whimsical photo for your album.
2. He/She is MINE!
This cute set up simply pits a bride against her bridesmaids in a humorous tug of war for the groom. Of course, the gender swap is just as funny: have the groom chase after the groomsmen, who are bearing away the bride on their shoulders. You’ve won your sweetheart for good, but why not document (in a fun way) the competition you had to beat to get there!
3. Secret Identities Revealed!
This one works best for the groomsmen, because of their button up shirts. Have each one hide a superhero-emblazoned tee under his dress shirt, and then have them pose together “revealing” their super-secret identities!
4. Light Painting
Light painting is a photography technique that uses lights, flares, or sparklers with a long exposure to create lines of living “light” in the photograph. Have the groom draw a heart in the air, or have tendrils of love-light wrapped around you both while the photographer takes the photo.
5. Movie Posters
With the ubiquitous nature of editing software and technologically advanced manipulation techniques, your photographer can do some really fun stuff with your images like create wedding photo “movie posters. ” You can even have one for each stage of your relationship a rom-com style “The Meeting” poster, a chick-flick “The Engagement” poster, a humorously dramatic “Rehearsal” poster, and so on.
6. Fun Scenes with Family and Friends
Don’t forget to include other family members and friends in your fun photographs! It’s just not practical to put EVERYONE in the wedding party, but that doesn’t mean you can’t include them! A photo of the bride’s mom and sister holding the groom “hostage” before the wedding, or the groom’s mother schooling the bride on his favorite recipes can be adorable memories of your big day, too.
