Best Mans Speeches Vital Tips You Need to Know When Making Best Mans Speeches

Visitors: 346

When it comes time to give the toasts at the wedding, it can be the best, most memorable moments of the evening, or it can be a complete disaster. In order to avoid going down in flames when giving best man's speeches, the old Boy Scout maxim of “Be Prepared" is the best advice.

Getting everything together beforehand, and being as prepared as you are going to get, is the best defense against a tragic toasting hour at the wedding. This involves putting pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, to write down everything that you plan to say in your best man's speech. Sure, it's okay to improvise, but no one, with the exception to experts like Robin Williams, are that good at making things up on the spot, so having a written set of notes will prevent your downfall. It is very hard to shake the heebie-jeebies when you have a sea of faces staring back at you, waiting for you to begin or continue your best man's speech.

But, the opposite is also true. Don't sit or stand there and ready your speech verbatim. That is in bad taste. Having a few note cards to refer to from time to time throughout best man's speeches is okay, however. It helps, too, to rehearse your toast before the wedding, especially out loud, so that you get used to it. Another good thing about saying best man's speeches out loud ahead of time is that it gives you a good idea of how long it will be. How long should it be? Well, you've heard the term “fifteen minutes of fame?" This ain't it, brother. Three to four minutes is all it takes to say those few good words about the bride and groom.

Now, what exactly are you going to say to and about the happy couple during their golden hour? Quotes are a great way to start best man's speeches rolling. Be sure to thank the parents of the bride and groom for setting this all up (but only if they bankrolled the happy couples Big Day), and thank the bride and groom for your honored spot in the lineup, and for inviting everyone to the event.

Then you will want to let everyone know who you are and what credentials you carry that gives you the privilege of being the best man. This is especially important as not everyone there will know who you are. If your best man's speech goes bad, you may want to keep it that way.

You will want to include a few anecdotes about how the happy couple came to be, making sure to lace the tale with a healthy dose of humor. Then, move on to a few amusing tales of the misadventures of you and the groom. . . the early years. Wrap things up with a congratulatory well-wisher to the bride and groom about the start of their new life together.

Everything else about the wedding is paid for . . . the flowers, the service, the limousines, the dinner, the wedding dress and so on. Why leave one of the most important parts of the entire wedding celebrations in the hands of an inexperienced speech writer.

Giving a speech is hard enough, but having to write it as well is sometimes just too much of to ask from a best man. That is why we recommend that you purchase a professionally written best man speech and then make some minor changes to personalize it.
