To become a good soccer manager, you need to make the most out of your available players. Pick a formation that fits your soccer players and always remember to think defensively as well as choose how to attack.
A good Soccer Manager use the most frequent 4-4-2, with your fullbacks (left and right defenders) preferably having good anticipation (to interrupt the opponents from passing), speed (pass up and down the wings as support to attack and follow as they will be against fast wingers) and good strength and ability to stop the opponent.
The central defenders should be big and strong, good and fast paced. The left and right midfielders must be wise, fast moving and knowledgeable in passing through the opponents. The central midfielders should be good on the soccer ball, it is better to have an attacking midfielder to give your force good passes and runs from the centre of midfield as well as the wings. The other central midfielder focus on defense, someone who will get trapped and win the ball must be good in anticipation, excellent ball control and keep the ball in possession.
The strikers are the target men. The focus of the striker is on the ball up front. He should be tall and strong and needs to grip up the ball and wait for other players to join him in attack. For corner kicks, make sure that all your tall players are in the box plus get your central defenders forward to join the forwards along with all your tall players.
If the opponent is attacking you, you may try to “press" the ball if there is an option to have it so that you may break up their play.
