Over the years, the sport of golf has become one of the single most popular pastimes among men between the ages of 17 and 65. Hitting the fairway and spending countless hours under the sun seems to be the way most men prefer to spend their summer days.
But why has golf seen such an increase in popularity - particularly among male audiences? Well, we asked ourselves the same question, and the answers are actually quite obvious.
Here are the top 3 reasons men love to golf:
1. Time with the Boys. For men, golfing is a great excuse to get together with the guys and pound back a few cold ones. Sure, the sport itself is great but being out of the house and having time just with the boys is the top reason men love to hit the green. There's no denying that an afternoon with the guys and a few cold beers under the sun beats shopping at the mall with the wife/girlfriend for 4 hours.
2. Exercise. Besides spending time with the guys, many men love to golf because of the sport's physical nature. Sure, you're not running up and down the field for 3 hours like you might in soccer or football, but there's a lot of walking and endurance involved in the sport of golf (especially if you walk instead of using a golf cart). Men over 45 are particularly interested in this sport because it offers physical activity without making you feel tired and worn out (like soccer or other high cardio sports).
3. Competition. A little friendly competition never hurt anyone, right? Most men are competitive by nature, so it's not surprising that men love to beat one another at a fiercely competitive game of golf. Winning a game of golf can make a man feel like he owns the world. Why wouldn't you want to spend your free time practicing your drives and kicking your friends’ behinds at a game you all love?
Playing golf is an enjoyable and healthy pastime that everyone (men and women) should consider taking up.
And while we're well aware that most of this article states that men love playing golf with other men, tons of men love to play golf with women as well. In fact, a lot of couples spend their weekends at the course either hanging out at the club or playing a game.
Happy golfing everyone!
