Largemouth Bass Fishing Basics and Tips Imagine You Are a Bass

Visitors: 262

Try to imagine yourself in place of a largemouth bass, a predator stalking its prey. You find a slight drop off near a point and patiently await your prey. Finally you see a silhouette above you and you lurch forward and engulf it in your mouth. Wow!, that was a great tasting shad. Wrong!! you have just been caught by a rattling crank bait! You see my fellow anglers, If you think like a fish rather than an angler you just might catch more fish.

Baits are created to mimic the natural forage of fish. When a largemouth bass gulps your rattle trap down it is most likely because it looks like its natural prey. Choosing the perfect bait can make the difference between a great day on the water or just another sun burn. Choose a bait that has proven itself on the lake you will be fishing. If you throw a bait that looks like nothing the bass have ever seen then the chance of getting a strike is slim.

Equipment certainly plays an important role in bass fishing. Choosing a sturdy rod and reel is a must not to mention the line. It is hard to catch a ten pound largemouth on 6 pound mono when the fish is trying to wrap you around some stumps. Match your fishing gear according to what you will be fishing for and where you will be fishing.

Take a knowledgeable person if possible. Nothing can take the place of an experienced guide on a lake. Fishing guides are professionals and their job is to put you on the fish so you can have a great fishing trip.

Many other factors play into a fishing trip such as weather conditions. Weather conditions can render bass activity inactive. Conditions that change drastically in a short time almost assures you will have a slow day on the water.

In conclusion, find a knowledgeable person to fish with or that will give you some tips on the lake where you will be fishing. Fishing forums are a great source for that information. Choose the right fishing equipment and certainly take an assortment of lures.
