Having a bicycle repair tool accessible when you are out for a long ride is very important. Many cyclists do not carry one because the chances of a malfunction on your bicycle are very slim. However, there is repair tool that you should have on you whenever you are out for a long ride so that you may prevent the ultimate cycling disaster, which is walking back home. This tool is the Adjustable Wrench.
The most basic adjustable wrench bicycle tool is one that is U-shaped with adjustable sides. The adjustable sides are used in order to fit the screw that you are trying to either loosen or tighten. I truly believe that cyclists can fix many things on the bicycle with this one bicycle repair tool alone!
The adjustable wrench comes in many sizes. These are (but not just limited to) 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 18, and 24 inch sizes. The rule here is that the smaller the size adjustable wrench, the smaller the bit it can be used for. The 4 inch sized adjustable wrench can only open up to a bit over 13 millimeters. Anything over 13 millimeters is just too difficult to loosen or tighten.
The one adjustable wrench size that I carry at most times when I am going for a long bicycle ride is the 6 inch sized adjustable wrench. It fits for most bicycles except for some parts; however, these parts are not crucial to the overall functionality of the bike's mechanics.
So make sure that you always carry with you an adjustable wrench tool whenever you feel that you may need one because it may be a cyclist's life saver!
