See a Variety of Exhibits at the Detroit Zoo

Visitors: 128

From award-winning attractions to lesser-known exhibits, the Detroit Zoo has a number of venues to enjoy all the animals in their habitats. Here are just some of the dozens of exhibits to visit by limo or luxury sedan:

The Arctic Ring of Life
Given the Significant Achievement Award by the AZA, the Arctic Ring of Life will take you on a trek to the North Pole. You can experience the tundra, open sea and pack ice of the Arctic environment, and the animals that are distinctively adapted to life there.

Amphibiville
At this Winner of the AZA Exhibit Award, Amphibiville you can see amphibians in their natural habitat. The exhibit includes a 2-acre wetland teeming with bullfrogs and other wildlife, and it is home of the National Amphibian Conservation Center (NACC).

Australian Outback Adventure
You can now enjoy some of our most fascinating animals in a whole new way. You now have the chance to get face to face with our 16 red kangaroos – from inside the Australian Outback Adventure exhibit.

The Wildlife Interpretive Gallery
Located in the zoo’s oldest building, The WIG has been completely restored and reconfigured and houses the Butterfly/Hummingbird Garden, a coral reef aquarium, a theater and an art collection.

Wild Adventure Simulator
Come and experience the country's first zoo-based virtual reality voyage. The simulator blends theater and technology into a unique educational, entertainment mix that appeals to audiences of all ages.

Butterfly Garden
The Butterfly Garden at the Detroit Zoo features butterflies from Costa Rica and El Salvador. The butterflies are raised by butterfly farmers who breed them from captive stock. None of the butterflies are collected from the wild and our suppliers are actively involved in butterfly conservation efforts in their home countries. The farms supply their stock of caterpillars (immature butterflies) with appropriate food, called a host plant, and care for them until they form a chrysalis. Every week the zoo receives a shipment of 200-300 chrysalises of up to 40 different species of butterflies from the butterfly farms. Over the course of a year the zoo receives about 70 different species of butterflies.

Great Apes of Harambee
The Great Apes of Harambee exhibit features large, outdoor exhibits for chimpanzees and gorillas, as well as large dayrooms for each. Completed in the late 1980's, the exhibit replicates native African habitat of these two magnificent primates.

Behavioral enrichment, such as stocking artificial termite mounds with treats and scattering food in the lush vegetation is used to promote natural, healthy behaviors. In fact, the chimpanzees and gorillas spend their days much as they would in the wild: foraging for food, grooming, playing, and raising young.

You'll enjoy viewing the natural behavior of the chimps and gorillas from the various viewing stations.

Penguinarium
The Detroit Zoo was the first zoo in the U. S. to build a facility exclusively for penguins. The Penguinarium was completed in 1968 and contains life-support systems that maintain the environment necessary for penguins to live in captivity (air temperature maintained at 45degrees F. and water at 45 degrees to 50 degrees F. ).

Penguins range through much of the southern hemisphere. They live along the coasts of South America, Africa, and Australia, as well as most of the islands found between. The three different sides of the Penguinarium resemble the habitats of species exhibited at the Zoo.

Checker Sedan is a premier mode of transportation that Detroit visitors can use to take them back and forth to the Zoo. Checker, www.checkersedan.com, was established in March 2000 and has become the fastest growing chauffeur-driven licensed luxury sedan company in Metropolitan Detroit. Checker Sedan is an affiliate of Soave Enterprises, a privately held management and investment company founded by Detroit businessman Anthony L. Soave. Checker Sedan is the official curbside luxury sedan provider for Detroit Metro Airport.

Wherever you're going, Checker Sedan is a better way to get there. Our vehicles and drivers will spoil you with luxury. And our little extras make us the obvious choice for people who are going places.
