A soil with lots of organic matter should be used, plus the garden should have a good drainage system. When planted, the buds must be spaced properly and faced upwards. In the first weeks, the plants will need light watering, but its best to give more water as the plant develops. Since ginger plant is from the tropics, the planting should be done outdoors in areas with bit of shade and a temperature that is between seventy to eight degrees Fahrenheit. When the weather is a cooler, the plant can go indoors to remain warm. If the plant is growing in a garden, once it reaches 4 months you will be able to get little bits to use at home. However, the best time for you to harvest this plant would be after all the leaves die, which is usually 8 to 10 months.

Types of Ginger

Wild ginger plant: Traditionally, this is used as to treat many diseases, disorders and infection; cough and colds; digestive related problems; scarlet fever; cramps; nerves; earaches; sore throats; convulsions; headaches; as a stimulant and more.

White ginger plant: This is a popular plant for the garden and is known to produce heavily scented flowers. Some of the other names given to this plant includes ginger lily and butterfly flower.

Red ginger plant: This is also well-known for producing beautiful flowers with vibrant red bracts which is used to enhance floral arrangements.
