The first thing you should think about before you go any further is any possible culture gap you may encounter in your new country. In all likelihood, you’ve visited the country in question and you had a wonderful time- in fact, that’s probably why you want to move there! However, it’s crucial to bear in mind that the experience of living there may be much, much different. For example, those locals who were so friendly and welcoming when you were tourists may now see you as rivals for a limited amount of jobs and income once you live there permanently. The best advice is to get organised and do a lot of research beforehand.

Ensure that you keep them as informed as possible as you make your preparations. Your kids might even be able to provide some helpful advice and input, so make sure you include them!

You’re likely to discover there’s far more red tape and administrative work to be completed than you ever thought possible. It’s obviously crucial that you arrange your emigration with your new country, so that you can legally settle there. Additionally, don’t forget to let your current government/council know that you’re leaving. The sooner you can get a bank account in your new country arranged, the better.
