You want to be sure when renting a condominium that the entire path to these exits is clear as well. There should be nothing standing or stacked in the way. Also, look to ensure there are no items that you could trip over or slip on. You should only see fire equipment hung up and out of the way. This eliminates the risk of tripping over it.
The pathways to the exits should be clearly marked. Signs for the exits should be highly visible. Does the condominium for rent have a map detailing the emergency exits and a marked path to get to them? When renting a condominium, ask the property manager if there is a specific spot for all of the residents to meet. What about natural disaster plans such as tornadoes?
All buildings need to have the correct safety equipment in operable condition. Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors need to be in the correct spots and they need to be working. Carbon monoxide detectors are not always mandatory, but motions are in place to make them a necessary piece of equipment. Therefore, it is best to check the laws in your area. Fire hoses and other equipment may also be necessary and should be in proper working order. Items such as kitchen fire extinguishers may not be mandatory by law, but if they are included in the condo, they should be maintained properly.
Lighting And Security
A condominium for rent anywhere in the country needs to have adequate lighting. The paths to and from the building, the stairs, and hallways need to be illuminated enough that you can see anything you might trip over. Lighting also helps to prevent numerous crimes. It makes it easier to recognize potential crimes and to identify the culprits.
Security measures when renting a condominium also come into play. The door to the condo should have an adequate locking system and sturdy framing construction. The windows and doors should have some kind of system to keep them secure. What security measures are in place for the complex itself? Some have a locked gate before you ever reach the building. Others will have an intercom system with remote locking system.
Laws enforce some of these safety requirements while others are at the discretion of the property manager and owner. When it comes to optional requirements with a condominium for rent, decide what you can live with. For those things that make you uncomfortable, you can often do something yourself to set these things into place. Renting a condominium means you need to do your part by enforcing these safety rules, including keeping hallways clear and mentioning any equipment that needs maintenance.
