8 Green Tips to Save Green in Your Wallet

These green tips will help you save money in your wallet and reduce greenhouse gases that are harmful to our atmosphere. It is excellent to do our part in saving our atmosphere from dangerous gases and also save money in the process.

  1. You can plant trees and shrubs around homes in a strategic manner. This would block cold air in the winter and hot air in the summer and help reduce heating and cooling costs of your home. In addition to reducing costs, this would also improve air quality, reduce soil erosion and increase trees. This would also reduce stormwater runoff.
  2. You can use a toaster to bake smaller portions of meat. This will cook the meat by consuming less energy than when you cook using a conventional baking oven.
  3. When you wash your sweater, use a drying rack to dry it. This will save you money on your electricity bill and won’t shrink your sweater.
  4. Buy a power strip that allows you to stop electricity consumption when you don’t use your television and digital video disc players.
  5. Draw your blinds when you wake up to block the sun rays from entering your home. Open the blinds after the sun sets so that you won’t have the heat entering your home. Use heavy curtains to insulate your home and leave the curtains open in the winter to let in the sun rays in winter to heat your home.
  6. You can save energy and water use by running your dishwasher and clothes washer and dryer when they are fully loaded.
  7. Save on your electricity bill by installing a thermostat that can be programmed to turn on your air conditioner 30 minutes before you arrive home. This will make your house comfortable when you arrive at your home.
  8. Locally grown foods support your local farmers and also travel less distance. By travelling shorter distances, locally grown foods help save fuel and transportation costs.

So, by planting trees and shrubs around homes in a strategic manner, we can block hot and cold air in the summer and winters thereby reducing heating and cooling costs of your home.
