Cozumel Real Estate to benefit from a more economical ferry line

Cozumel Real Estate has the benefit of being an island which offers a relaxing, natural setting. While the island combines this atmosphere with all the conveniences of modern life, Cozumel Real Estate also provides the benefit of being only a 45 minute ferry ride away from Playa del Carmen, and easy access to Cancun as well. While the current prices are fine for a visit now and then, either for visitors making their way over from the mainland, or for residents making an occasional shopping trip - 280 pesos round trip - the mayor recently confirmed that Cozumel Real Estate may benefit from a new ferry company that would connect the island and the mainland at more affordable prices.

The opening of a new ferry company in the island community is a positive sign, commented Pearl Tun Pech, the president of the National Chamber of Restaurants and Food Industry, Cozumel (CANIRAC).

Tun said “a third ferry company would be a good option for the island; hopefully it is a project which comes to fruition, that really takes off, as the people of the island are really in need of it; not only would it benefit the residents but also tourists, as there are many who choose alternatives to visiting Cozumel because of the high price of the tickets. "

Likewise, Tun pointed out that it “would be a great way to open the way for changes, little by little, " and would be for the “good of the community. "

He similarly felt that to make this project work, the ships that are going to be used should be of high quality and provide good service to the community, since people may prefer to pay more for the convenience and speed, if the new ships do not live up to expectations.

In order to address this issue of high prices for the boat tickets to and from Playa del Carmen, the mayor, Juan Carlos Gonzalez Hernandez, met with officials from the Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) in Mexico City last week. He raised the need to open a new ferry company into operation in Cozumel.

This meeting was also attended by officials of the General Coordination of Ports and Merchant Marine, who also expressed his support for the initiative to have another ferry company to offer its services at lower cost for the benefit of residents, tourists and business people, many of whom need leave the island regularly to conduct business. Cozumel Real Estate owners would enjoy the benefit of being able to travel to the mainland more regularly, or, if they already do so by necessity, it would have less of an impact on their budget.
